Lawn Fertilization and Weed Control Program

A beautiful, green healthy lawn doesn't have to be expensive or difficult to achieve. Our 5 visit program uses quality fertilizers and weed control products to improve turf health and appearance. Big company results at smaller company prices.

First Visit - Early Spring
Lawn Fertilizer: A custom blend, complete fertilizer to green up the turf and add density.
Lawn Weed Control: A liquid, 3-way broadleaf herbicide designed to work well in cool temperatures. This application will control dandelions and other early season weeds that tend to grow in North Idaho's early spring season.

Second Visit - Spring
Lawn Fertilizer: A custom blend, complete fertilizer that will nourish actively growing turf.
Lawn Weed Control: Another quality 3-way herbicide especially effective on fast germinating dandelions.

Third Visit - Early Summer
Lawn Fertilizer: A custom blend, complete fertilizer.
Lawn Weed Control: Spot spray as needed.

Fourth Visit - Late Summer
Lawn Fertilizer: A custom blend, complete fertilizer with a buffering agent that reduces the possibility of burning in hot weather.
Lawn Weed Control: Another full coverage spray of all lawn areas with a product designed to control weed species that typically germinate late in the season such as clover.

Fifth Visit - Fall
Lawn Fertilizer: A custom blend, complete Fall type fertilizer with additional potassium to nourish and encourage root development over the winter.
Lawn Weed Control: Spot spray as needed.

Broadleaf Weed Control - for lawns and other grassy areas

With only three applications per season, we can provide good control over broadleaf weeds in your lawn, grasses planted for erosion control or any other grassy area. If initiated early enough in the season this program is also effective in controlling many noxious weeds including knapweed in areas where you desire grasses but not troublesome weeds.

Managing Necrotic Ring Spot

NRS (Necrotic Ring Spot) is a turf disease caused by a fungus that is present in the soil. Sometimes when the climatic conditions are right, usually late spring or early fall for North Idaho, rings of dying grass appear.
Although NRS cannot be completely cured, it is important to take appropriate measures to stop the progression of the disease and begin to reverse the visual effects.

The following are a group of physical practices and product application that do a good job of masking the effects of the disease and are necessary to keep the lawn healthy and looking its best.

  1. Aeration - Core aeration removes plugs from the lawn and loosens compacted soil allowing air, water and fertilizer to reach the root zone more efficiently. This should be done each spring. Aeration a second time in the fall is a good idea in severe cases.
  2. Fungicide Spray - Two application of an appropriate fungicide will be made 28 days apart in the spring. These are preventative measures that help keep the disease from spreading
  3. Organic Granular Fertilizer - On the first 4 out of 5 visits per season we will apply an organic fertilizer that is derived from chicken manure. This product will not only feed the lawn and keep it green, but it encourages the growth and activity of beneficial soil microbes. These microbes feed on bacteria and fungi. This creates a more favorable balance in the soil leading to a healthier, better looking lawn.
